About Us
Bring over 35 years of experience
and traditional Japanese craftsmanship to your next project.
Daichi Landscape was established by myself, Jim Robinson in 1996. The primary goal of our company is to treat landscape design and construction as art. We specialize in the design and construction of water features, stonework and the placement of sculpture.
I have worked in the landscape industry since 1975. After graduating from high school, I started a landscape maintenance business with my father. Soon after, in 1978 and 1979, I studied in the landscape design and construction program at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon. In 1980, I sold my portion of the maintenance business and went to work for Mr. Hoichi Kurisu, President of Kurisu International . Mr. Kurisu has designed and created many award winning projects throughout the United States and internationally. This experience established the foundation for my working life. Mr. Kurisu taught me many invaluable lessons about the design and construction of Japanese style gardens as well as design principles in general.
After ten years with Kurisu International , I decided to leave the company and return to school to study landscape architecture. In 1989, I was accepted into the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Oregon – a nationally respected five-year program with emphasis on design. After my second year in the program, I applied to and was accepted into a one-year exchange program at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. While living in Japan, I studied under the guidance of Waseda professor of Architecture, Echi Hozumi, and President of Landart, Inc. , Mr. K. Sakakibara. I also met Mr. Kazutaka Uchida , an internationally recognized stone sculptor. This began an exciting new aspect of study and collaboration in my career.
Daichi has created a niche in the landscape field to work with sculptors, artists and architects to create totally new and refreshing landscapes.
Today, together with my wife, Chieko and our outstanding employees, we are excited about our future projects, including yours!
